Bandipur National Park is a proud possession of the Southern state of Karnataka and a Tiger Resereve. Its inception dates back to the year 1931 when the Maharaja of Mysore created it over an area of 90 sq km, which however got extended to 800 sq km. The park was called Venugopala Wildlife Park till the Government took it over and christened it Bandipur National Park in 1973. This wild life heaven is gifted with three rivers- Moyar, Kabini and Nagur. Ideally it is a destination that can be visited all year round, but one can expect the maximum exposure during March to May and June to October.

Recently baptized as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, this abode for wildlife heritage is located in Karnataka. Nagarhole National Park was established in the year 1955 and is covering a land mass of 247 sq mile. The word Nagarhole is an amalgamation of two Kannada word- 'Nagar' that mens serpents and 'Hole' meaning streams. Doing justice to its name, Nagarhole National Park houses some snake streams. Apart from these reptiles, various other animals like tiger, elephant, leopard, Indian bisons, myriad kinds of deers and more than 250 species of birds are the inhabitants of this park.

The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary has earned its reputation of being the 25th Project Tiger Reserve. The considerable number of tigers helped it bag the honour in the year 1998. The name comes after the Bhadra river that flows through the dense woods of the sanctuary, although it is popularly known as Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary. Tigers are not the only dwellers of this sanctuary: sharing territory are some others like elephant, panther, sambar, spotted deer, mouse deer, barking deer and the common langur are some of the mammals found here.

The Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary is situated near the celebrated town of Srirangapatna in Mandya district of Karnataka. Covering an area of 67 sq km, this sanctuary is consist of six islands lying along the banks of the Kaveri river. A dam that was built across the river led to the creation of these small islands and that offered a perfect sojourn for the birds. Subsequently it was announced a wildlife sanctuary in 1940.
